We are all that wee bit perturbed by the rising food costs. Let's just say I speak for myself. Food costs those few dollars more, gas prices are higher than ever before and my tank fills for $20 more and I have to feed two cars. All those costs plus daycare and a mortgage and lots of other expenses. So Z and I, while drowning out for the night, changing into nightclothes and brushing our teeth after that extra scoop of ice cream talk about how prices are rising and this is terrible and tch, tch.
The point is that we're a two income household, and we live well. And so the prices aren't changing our lives in a big way beyond that money we could've saved that is now spent on gas or whatever. We are careful with money, with resources like water and electricity.
The bigger point is that we're so blessed and fortunate that we have food on the table (actually on the two dining tables we have, not at the same time though. okay i need a nap). A friend visited me last week who is a big hero because she is undergoing chemotherapy for the dreaded C, has lost all her hair, too much has happened to her family the past two years, and now with this economic recession, they had to sell many prized possessions like the bike she and husband loved. She wore the most beautiful vibrant parrot green skirt that cheered me up and made me want to go shave my head. I love her for her cheerfulness. Thanks, Ang, for your friendship. Anyway, I digress.
So to celebrate Z's birthday yesterday, I am going to do my bit here.
And while you're at it, have a little fun and share a little food here
I cannot bear the sight of a hungry child anymore. The heart just breaks. What must the heart of the parent feel like then? And the tummy of a hungry child?
